Public Outreach Program for IYQ 2025

- Overview

To celebrate the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025) designated by the United Nations, the Korean Physical Society (KPS) organized a public outreach program titled “Physicists Visiting Their Alma Mater.”

This program invited physicists to return to their former middle and high schools to share their academic journeys, research experiences, and insights into modern physics, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of scientists.

- Background & Purpose

As part of its public engagement activities for IYQ 2025,

the Public Outreach Committee of the Korean Physical Society planned this initiative to:

· Promote interest in physics among middle and high school students

· Provide role models by connecting students with alumni physicists

· Introduce contemporary physics research, including quantum science and technology

· Strengthen the connection between the physics community and secondary education

Participating lecturers were recruited from KPS members and conducted lectures at their alma mater schools.
